Sport & Remedial Massage
Sport & Remedial Massage is a very deep tissue massage which uses a range of therapeutic techniques for the prevention, recognition and treatment of injuries. In addition it can also be used to provide support for people wanting to maintain and improve fitness.
There is often a misconception that Sport & Remedial Massage is reserved for elite athletes; this is not the case. Regardless of your sporting level, physical fitness or strength, massage can be beneficial and aid the maintenance and health of the body’s soft tissues.
Sport & Remedial Massage can be combined with Swedish Massage, Trigger Point Therapy and other techniques like assisted stretching and Myofascial Release to enhance power, endurance and flexibility and aid with the mobilisation of joints.
Due to the nature of this deep tissue manipulation it can sometimes be an uncomfortable treatment but your body will respond as muscle stiffness and tension reduces.
The Therapist uses hands, fingers, forearms and elbows to achieve results. Typically the aim is to relax the muscles and other soft tissues, increase delivery of blood and oxygen to the massaged areas, warm them and decrease pain.
Sport & Remedial Massage is the management, rehabilitation, articulation and manipulation of the bodies soft tissues including muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia. The techniques applied during a Sports Massage can be used on anyone whether you’re a professional sports person or if you exercise socially, anyone experiencing pain, postural problems, limited range or quality of movement and stress can benefit.
Reported benefits include:
- Improved circulation and lymphatic flow
- Aids elimination of toxins and waste products within soft tissues
- Improved movement and function
- Improved relaxation of body and mind
- Helps manage stress
- Normalises muscle length, tone or imbalances
- Assists with pain relief

- Stimulate or sedate nerve endings
Myofascial Release (MFR) is a form of soft tissue therapy used to treat somatic dysfunction (impaired or altered function of related components of the bodies systems) and accompanying pain and restriction of motion.
Fascia is a 3D continuous web that extends without interruption from the top of the head to the tips of the toes. Fascia surrounds, infuses and protects every other tissue, tendon, muscle, bone, ligament and organ of the body.
In healthy conditions the facial system is relaxed and wavy in configuration. Following all physical and emotional traumas and through poor posture fascia scars and hardens and this causes internal structures to be pulled out of alignment causing abnormal pressure on nerves, blood, organs etc
MFR is mostly a very gentle and relaxing technique which can result in some incredible changes. Sometimes a Therapist will integrate MFR techniques into a Sport & Remedial Massage.

Swedish Body Massage
The Swedish Massage is an excellent way to relax the entire body. It is beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins and easing tension and stress. Research has also shown that volunteers who had regular Swedish Massage had increased lymphocytes (white blood cells) that are part of the immune system and a boost in immune cells.
Swedish Massage is a system of long strokes, kneading, friction, tapping, percussion, vibration and shaking motions that apply pressure between muscles and bones. Therapists use long gliding and kneading strokes to achieve beneficial results.
Trigger Point Therapy
A trigger point is a tight area within a muscle that causes pain in other parts of the body. The pain can feel sharp and stabbing or dull and achy.
Trigger Point Therapy is designed to alleviate the source of the pain with isolated pressure and release. This is often integrated into a Sport & Remedial Massage.
